Lyubov "Luba" Popivker, Psy.D.

Dr. Lyubov (Luba) Popivker has been working in the field of Psychology since 2009. She is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Maryland, who works with adolescents, college-age students, and adults.

Since a young age, Dr. Popivker aspired to be a support to others. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Fordham University in 2005. She then received her Master's of Arts degree in Counseling in 2010 from Seton Hall University and earned her Doctorate of Psychology from Loyola University Maryland in 2016. She completed a doctoral internship at Johns Hopkins University Counseling Center. She has worked in university counseling centers and community mental health centers providing therapy and assessment to clients seeking support for a variety of mental health issues.

Dr. Popivker’s therapy style is emotion-focused and insight-oriented with the goal of helping clients better understand, accept, and manage their complex emotional experiences.  She strives to create a safe environment by providing empathetic and nonjudgmental listening and encouragement so that clients feel comfortable exploring whatever feelings, thoughts, or challenges they are experiencing. Dr. Popivker uses an integrative approach, which includes Interpersonal/Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Through this approach, combined with building a strong therapeutic relationship, she will provide her clients with the space to begin to accept and be kindly curious about themselves, their relationships, and their experiences. Collaboratively, Dr. Popivker will guide her clients toward developing resilience, learning specific strategies to cope with emotional pain and life’s stressors, and working on making changes toward living a more fulfilling life.

Dr. Popivker is experienced in treating individuals who present with anxiety, depression, significant life transitions, relationship issues, low self-esteem, family-of-origin related-issues, and other life stressors.

 

In her personal life, Dr. Popivker enjoys spending time with her family, taking Zumba classes, and trying out new cuisines.
